Before You Begin
Open your parcel and verify that all components are included.
- If you are not installing immediately, remove the carpet or vinyl from its packaging and lay it flat in a clean, dry area. This will help any molded contours relax and return to their original shape. Avoid leaving the product rolled up for extended periods.
Tools You May Need
-
Chalk
-
Kitchen scissors
-
Vacuum cleaner
-
Basic hand tools - For removing seats, trims, bolts, etc.
-
Contact adhesive - Recommended for securing underfelt.
Preparation
-
Lay your new carpet or vinyl flat in a clean, dry workspace and allow it to settle.
-
Remove all necessary components including door sill plates, kick panels, front and rear seats, seat belt bolts, center console (if applicable), and any trims securing the existing flooring.
-
Carefully remove the old carpet or vinyl, keeping it for reference during installation.
-
Note the position and placement of any existing underfelt before removal.
-
Thoroughly vacuum the floor to prepare a clean, debris-free surface for installation.
Installing the Carpet or Vinyl
-
Place the old carpet or vinyl over the new product to use as a template.
-
Mark all holes and cut-outs for seats, gear stick, console brackets, etc., using chalk—do not cut yet. Chalk marks can be easily wiped off with a damp cloth later.
-
If replacing or reinstalling underfelt, lay it in the same positions as originally fitted, ensuring it conforms to the floor contours and does not obstruct any fittings.
-
Our carpet or vinyl kits may be supplied in two or three pieces depending on your vehicle model (typically front, rear, and sometimes a center section). Check the shape and molding of each piece carefully before installation.
-
Begin by fitting the rear section first, centering it over the transmission tunnel and working outwards.
-
Next, install the front section, aligning its molded contours with the floor pan shape.
-
Once aligned correctly, carefully cut out the marked holes using kitchen scissors. Trim edges as needed since pieces are intentionally oversized to allow fit adjustments.
Underfelt Installation
Proper underfelt installation is crucial for achieving the best fit and durability of your carpet or vinyl.
-
Install underfelt in the same locations and shapes as the original underfelt.
-
Use contact adhesive—available from Bunnings or Mitre 10—to secure the underfelt to the base of the floor. Only a few spots of glue are necessary to hold it in place effectively.
-
Ensure the underfelt fits the floor contours smoothly and does not interfere with any fittings or hardware.
Reassembly
Once your new carpet or vinyl is properly installed:
- Reinstall the rear seat base, seat belt bolts, front seats, center console, door sill plates, kick panels, and any other trims removed during preparation.
